Hawaii became a state on August 21, 1959, having previously been an independent kingdom from 1795 to 1893, a republic until 1898, and a territory until statehood. Elected offices are as follows:
- Presidential electors every four years, at large
- Two Senators every six years
- Staggered terms
- Congressional representatives every two years
- Governor, elected every four years
- State Senators, elected every four years
- 1887-1964, 1978-present: Staggered terms
- 1966-1974: Elected all at once
- State Representatives
- 1851-55: Elected every year
- 1856-present: Elected every two years
Party primaries were introduced by 1930.
Hawaii has primarily reported election results by precinct since annexation, with results by district beforehand.
